GENERAL WASHING TIPS.

In addition to the garment-specific wash instructions, there are some general tips that can both extend the life of the garments and save you a lot of time in the laundry room.

Air:

The absolute easiest and best way to keep your garments fresh is to air them. Some materials such as merino wool have natural antibacterial properties. This means that the garment stays fresh much longer. You will be amazed at how fresh the t-shirt feels after being aired on a hanger during the night.

Focus on the stain:

Did you get a stain? Focus on it. It is often that garments are washed completely unnecessarily, when you really only need to remove a small stain. In most cases, it is enough to rub a little hand dishwashing detergent with lukewarm water on the stain. Then make sure to rinse thoroughly and hang to dry.

Follow the wash instructions:

Be sure to follow each garment's specific wash instructions. These instructions are developed by the textile manufacturer and optimised to their particular material.

Detergent:

Use the right detergent for the right material. There are a plenty of different detergents out there, so try to find a detergent that is both gentle on the environment and your garment. Some materials are a little more delicate, such as merino wool. For these garments, we recommend Organotex wool and down wash.

SPECIFIC GARMENT WASH INSTRUCTIONS.

When you eventually need to wash your garment, follow the instructions below.

Since it is 100% natural fibers and no nylon or polyester is involved, the fibers can "twist" during washing and sometimes the fibers may need a little extra help to find their way back to the right position after washing. Also note that the seams along the sides are not the widest point of the sweater and that these are inclined inwards like the shape of a V.

A tip, if you have access to a steam iron, is to "steam" the sweater. Hang the sweater on a hanger and apply the steam fairly close up. The humid heat causes the fibers to return to their original position. Often the body heat can do the job and it forms quite quickly when you have been wearing it for a while. Another tip is to shape the sweater when it is wet after washing and let it dry lying on, for example, a towel.

DWR.

Our fabrics that come with an impregnation, so-called Durable Water Repellent (DWR) are free of fluorocarbons. A DWR impregnation is a very thin coating that is applied on top of the fabric. This coating prevents water from being absorbed by the fabric fibers and instead causes the water to form small beads that simply run off the fabric. In short: this treatment makes your pants stay dry much longer.

As this impregnation is applied on top of the fabric, it will suggestively be worn away by washing and use. To maximise the effect of the impregnation, you can reactivate it after washing. By applying low to moderate heat to the fabric with, for example, an iron, the water-repellent impregnation is reactivated. We recommend this after every wash.

In time, you will experience a much lower performance on the water-repellent impregnation. We then suggest that you re-impregnate the garment with a water-repellent impregnation free of fluorocarbons. We recommend Oragnotex impregnation.

STORAGE.

Make sure the garments are completely dry before storing them. Garments with impregnation should advantageously have their impregnation reactivated immediately after washing and before they are stored. By applying low to moderate heat to the fabric with, for example, an iron, the water-repellent impregnation is reactivated.

Some materials may also be extra popular with pests. Natural fibers such as merino wool and tencel tend to be popular with fur beds and clothing mills. Be sure to store garments in these materials in a tightly closed storage. A housewife's tip is to place pieces of cedar near the garments to keep the pests away.

Although we aim to make the products as durable as possible, something might break. The best thing then is to mend them. With a regular needle and thread you go a long way and of course will we support you. Contact us at wecare@norraoutdoor.com
